Two things to know here: A battery charger is not an inverter, but a rectifier. An inverter converts DC to a (sort of) sinusoidal waveform, basically AC. Your battery charger converts AC current from your mains to current limited DC (for charging batteries for example) Almost all battery chargers (except really cheap ones) will go from a charging mode to a “trickle charge” mode, which is very low current charging so as not to overcharge.
