Do 1TB HDs work (in each slot) with the Netgear ReadyNAS nv+?

While the ReadyNAS NV+ specifications do not explicitly state a maximum volume capacity, the RAIDiator firmware is currently in public beta for version 4.0. Its release notes state “2TB+ volume size support. With this release, you can now fully utilize full capacity of 750GB and 1TB disk drives. Existing X-RAID systems utilizing 750GB will not automatically expand – you will need to use an add-on ForceExpansion to reclaim the extra 40GB of space beyond the previous pre-RAIDiator 4.0 2TB limitation.” RAIDiator 4.0 public beta/download: http://www.infrant.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12969 1TB disk discussion (public): http://www.infrant.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14116 RAIDiator 4.00b4-p1-T2 Release Notes RAIDiator 4.00b4-p1-T2, or “beta 4”, is our third public beta for our new RAIDiator 4 firmware for the ReadyNAS.

The ReadyNAS Hardware FAQs say the largest size is 750GB: http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N101705.asp#What_is_the_maximum_drive_size_that_the_ReadyNAS_supports.3F I would expect this to change as 1TB drives become more common, and the ReadyNAS engineers feel more pressure to release a firmware that supports the larger drives. In fact, in the past, I’ve often found that documentation becomes out-dated, and sometimes FAQs can be wrong. If you happen to have the ReadyNAS and the drives laying about, it would cause no electrical damage to install the latter into the former and trying it. However, if you have problems later, NetGear will tell you that it is an unsupported configuration, and would be unwilling to help. So, don’t try this unless you’re willing to take the risk and willing to support yourself if you have problems. Sources:
