Digital zoom or optical zoom?
Digital cameras are usually equipped with optical zoom lenses covering a range from moderate wide-angle to telephoto. They also come with a digital zoom function that cuts out all but the center part of the picture, offering the appearance of a longer telephoto effect. Digital cameras with only the digital zoom function can be designed to be slimmer and more compact than units equipped with an optical zoom lens. If you prefer a high quality zoom image, you might select a digital camera with an optical zoom lens.
