The concentration of natural HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (monacolins) in Lipascor® is higher than that in HypoCol® even though both are classified as Chinese Proprietary Medicine and contain the proprietary Red Yeast Rice from WPU (WBL-Peking University Biotech). HypoCol® is an OTC preparation used for mild to moderate hyperlipidemia. Lipascor® on the other hand contains xuezhikang® which is specially formulated for the treatment of dyslipidaemia in a clinical setting. Its safety and efficacy has been extensively investigated in clinical studies.
