Difference between intramural, intercollegiate, scholarship, and club sports?
Intramural sports or intramurals are recreational sports organized within a school. The term derives from the words intra muros meaning inside the walls,[1] indicating that matches are conducted between members of the same school (as opposed to varsity teams who compete with other schools). The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) seeks to fully integrate life, academics, sport and fitness into the higher education environment. It began, in 1937, when Dr. James Naismith and local leaders formed the National College Basketball Tournament staged at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The goal of the tournament was to establish a forum for small colleges and universities to determine a national basketball champion. The original eight-team tournament expanded to 32 teams in 1938.
