When the JS all-star teams debuted in 1991, basketball and football all-stars were selected from the entire JS circulation area, but other sports all-stars were selected only from schools in metro Peoria. We changed that in the mid-‘90s because so many top players from the rest of the area were being ignored, and reader/fan interest demanded the change.
