Didn New Zealand have problems with invalid ballots?
Yes. When New Zealand switched to STV from first-past-the-post, some voters marked their (paper) ballots with “X” marks instead of ranking, thus spoiling their ballots. This will not be an issue in the SAGE election, as the voting system will not accept an invalid ballot. The voter’s rankings will be displayed for confirmation before the ballot is cast.
