When placed in land fill, food waste creates methane gas which is very harmful to the environment. To help tackle this problem Flintshire County Council will be introducing a pilot kerbside food waste collection service to around 20,000 properties in selected areas across the county. The areas included in the pilot scheme have been selected to reflect the diverse range of property types in Flintshire. The food waste collected will be composted at a purpose built facility using an enclosed system. The scheme will start in April and will be a weekly collection on the same day as the black sack. During March properties included in the scheme will have two caddies and a roll of biodegradable bags delivered to their homes. The smaller caddy and compostable sack is for storing food waste scraps from the kitchen. The waste can then be transferred into the larger caddy, with a lockable lid, for residents to place at the kerbside outside their home for collection. Prior to the scheme beginning,
