Did you know that Fife Council provides training and career opportunities through Modern Apprenticeships and other programmes?
The council is the biggest provider of apprenticeships in Fife and its award-winning scheme offers training in professions, for example vehicle maintenance, construction trades such as joinery and gas fitting, business administration and catering. Catering Services’ training programme for assistant cooks has helped 38 people move into jobs or up the career ladder, and there are 13 apprentice vehicle mechanics in Fleet Services working towards a Scottish Vocational Qualification. Building Services currently has 92 Modern Apprentices. Douglas Ferguson is in his fourth year. “Getting a place with Fife Council has been a fantastic opportunity for me,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to learn a trade and I would recommend a Modern Apprenticeship to anyone.” The next round of recruitment for Building Services apprentices and trainee assistant cooks will start in spring 2009.
