I must say… no. As you know Taekwondo is a modern martial art that literally means ‘the art of attacking and defending with the hand and foot’. Sure, we practice how to defend against bladed and club weapons but by definition there are no offensive weapons, there are no stick… attacks. The Taekwondo Bongsul stick techniques are totally different to any weapon movements within Korean martial arts like in Hapkido or some of the other martial arts style that I have done. It’s totally different. What about the Hwarang warriors. Did they use sticks? I think so. They had them, but this Taekwondo Bongsul concept is my idea. It is totally based on modern Taekwondo. Taekwondo Bongsul has Taekwondo’s physical movement and is based on Taekwondo’s philosophy. The method of training in Taekwondo Bongsul is the Taekwondo method, defence by counter attack.
