Unfortunately, yes. And there were numerous deaths because of it. Generally the problem with abortions in the “old days” stemmed from the fact that it was the poorest of people who could not get an abortion. Those with money could certainly either find a doctor or travel to where they could get a doctor to do it. Those who did not have the money resorted to whatever they could use to get the job done and hangers were one of the tools that were used.
