Did women have special privileges BEFORE they had equal rights?
Yes, women definitely had some special privileges, depending on what era and culture they lived in. But they were also dependent on things like the personality or beliefs of the men who controlled you (father, brother, husband) as well as on your class and race. I prefer equal rights, myself, because then equality as a human being becomes a matter of law, not the product of arbitrary good fortune.
