Did winning the Miss East Africa UK pageant come as a surprise?
Maureen: Yes, it was a pleasant surprise. It’s slowly sinking in because I did not expect to be the winner. I expected to do well, but winning was a shock. With time I shall get used to it. What made you join the Miss East Africa UK pageant? I got encouragement from my friends and I saw it as a way of increasing awareness of things close to my heart, like putting smiles on children’s faces and contributing to their future by making sure that for example they get the education and love and the care that they need. What did you win along with the Miss East Africa-UK title? A modelling contract, photo shoots, but above all I won an opportunity to be able to do good to the children. I really love children and I want to be looked upon as an ambassador for them. I want to be able to make a difference in a tangible way and know that I have made a contribution as an African woman.
