Did white people have white slaves back before the civill war?
Of course this all depends on what area of the world you are talking about and what time period. The Ancient Romans enslaved many people of their conquered peoples, including other whites. In the United States, white people were never owned as slaves in the same sense that Africans Americans were, however an institution known as indentured servitude was similar albeit with some important differences. Passage from England to the New World was expensive and sometimes would be immigrants would hire themselves out as indentured servants to people already living in America. An indentured servant would have his fare to America paid by someone for whom he would work for a set period of time, usually seven years. After this time was over, he was freed and often given something such as tools, money, or even a small plot of land to live and farm on. Most of these indentured servants were white and worked for other white men, although there are records of some black servants who were freed after
