Did the word originate from the country NIGER?
My thought is that it did. And so anyone from that country were called niggers, just like anyone from America is an American or anyone from Europe is a European and so on and so on. But I think the white slave owners probably started refering to ALL blacks as niggers ultimately. I liken it to sort of like how a lot of people had started refering to any SUV as a Jeep which made the Jeep brand defend itself by introducing the motto: “There’s only one,” and to how a lot of people refer to any dark brown or black looking soda beverage as a “Coke.” Now, that’s my rationale! I haven’t heard of how it originated or bothered to research how it originated. And also, there is the Niger River in that area to. So, these two things provide a very plausible rationale on how the word “******” originated, in my opinion.
