Did the UK ever ask to become a diverse and multicultural society?

I think the UK is feeling it more because we’re suffering from a double whammy. The break up of the empire allowed commnwelath citizens to settle in Britain, and then the eastern European countries joining the EU meant an influx of migrant workers. In the 1950’s the labour from the commonwealth was welcomed as the boom in manufacturing for the reconstruction of post war Europe meant there was a shortage of labour in the UK. It’s a good thing to be aware and tolerant of other races cultures and religons but it’s a two way street and the the incoming culture race etc.should remember which country they are in and be tolerant of our culture and religons.
