Did the suffragettes help women to get the vote?
Yes they did. A year after the end of the first worlf war in 1919, if we are specifically talking about the UK. Throughout the war women had been doing mens jobs in the factories producing arnaments, working the land for food and engineering etc. Afterwards it was difficult to maintain a patriarchal society, so as a gradual phasing in, at first women over 30 with property were allowed to vote. Within the next decade or so, the vote was extended to all women over the age of 21. This stood until1970 when the voting age for both men and women was lowered to the age of 18. P.S. This is just a brief rundown. I don’t just tell people to “google it”, but if you do google womens suffrage or suffragettes it will give a more detailed account. I just wanted to give a concise answer, suggest a sight, but not bog you down with too much detail, I hope I got the balance right.
