Did the Queen of England have to pass new laws when she married Philip who I believe is Turkish and muslim?

The Queen approves new laws passed by Parliament: this is a constitutional monarchy, not a dictatorship. Most people are aware that Prince Philip, a descendant of Queen Victoria of Britain, was a Prince of Denmark and Greece (titles he renounced upon marrying Princess Elizabeth). He was a full member of the Greek Orthodox Church: shortly before his marriage, he became a member of the Church of England, though I have read that in recent years he has shown renewed interest in the Greek Orthodox Church. His mother, Princess Alice, became a Greek Orthodox Nun and founded an order of Orthodox Nuns. She in her old age lived in Buckingham Palace until her death. I trust that you are a little more enlightened. Incidentally, there would be no need to change any law – under the present law, the Sovereign may marry anyone with the exception of a Roman Catholic, however, even this ancient piece of sectarianism is likely to be changed in the next few years.

The Queen of BRITAIN, (not England) does not pass laws. And Prince Philip is a member of the Greek Royal Family….I don’t believe he has a drop of Turkish in him.

Prince Philip is Greek, and he did have to change from Roman Catholicism to Anglican before he married Queen Elizabeth. Since both Roman Catholics and Anglicans are generally ‘catholic’ religions, this is very easily done. Prince Philip is not Turkish, and he has never been a Muslim.

Elizabeth was a princess when she got married to Philip. No laws needed to be changed, and the monarchy doesn’t have the power to change laws anyway. Philip is Greek and a Christian, although that doesn’t matter. There’s no rule against her marrying a Muslim.

Ruthie You actually have it backwards. It isn’t Philip who is descended from muslims, it is Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth II descends from the Muslims who created the Arab Andalusian civilisation of Spain. Since some of those people sprang from the family of the Prophet, The Queen herself is a descendent either directly or collaterally of Mohammed. When Her Majesty visited Morocco in 1980, the Moroccan media pointed out this Islamic ancestry of Canada’s Queen. Prince Philip has the blood of the Angeloi and Sommenoi Emperors of the East as well as the famous Palaeologus Sovereigns of Byzantium in his veins. However, these ethnic groups were never muslim. Prince Philip grandfather was the King of Greece, but interestingly modern Greek heritage is one of the few ethnic strains that cannot be directly traced to the British royal family. The reason is that the King of Greece comes from Danish and German stock. Prince Philip’s patrilineal line follows: G-Father,Title 0-Philip,Duke of Edinburgh 1
