Did the Queen get her crown jewels from the Elizabeth Duke collection at Argos?
I am afraid that replicating the Crown Jewels is not permitted, and is one of the reasons why it is forbidden to photograph them. If we could just get them from Argos, just think how many millions would strut around pretending to be our monarch. We can’t have that. The different items in the collection are from different times. The Imperial State Crown, the small one worn by Elizabeth at state functions, was commissioned by Queen Victoria. She wanted a smaller crown because Saint Edward’s Crown is very big and heavy. The Imperial State Crown contains almost 3,000 diamonds, including the Lesser Star of Africa. Saint Edward’s Crown was worn by one of England’s last pre-Norman kings, Edward the Confessor. But the original was destroyed in the English Civil War, the current one being a 17th century replica. This crown is normally worn only at a coronation. It weighs almost 5 pounds.
