Did the Legislature receive a report on telecommunications supporting the broadband network concept?
In the summer of 1992, the General Assembly received a report on telecommunications. The Legislature had commissioned Peat Marwick to perform the study. The report recommended the state continue to move toward a broadband network. The firm estimated potential savings of $10- to $20 million annually versus alternative approaches and a savings of 20 percent annually from network costs if all networks were consolidated. The broadband highway is the only technology that currently would accommodate all networks – because of its functionality and scalable capacity.
