Did the Ishtar Goddess wear Red or Purple?
The pictures we see were made centuries after the goddess was worshipped. Any colour would be reasonable now. I would imagine that the red or purple colours to which you refer come from the use of Tyrrenian purple (not sure of spelling). This was made from a sea creature on the Phoenician coast and was the dye used for the Roman imperial purple, reserved for Emperors and their family etc. As we create any deity in the image we choose then the appearance and clothing change as do our ideas and times. It is personal choice, unless you have seen an image of her. .
