How on earth would the Iraq war impact the mortgage market? Deregulation of banks caused the problems we are facing now. Now I’m voting for McCain because I think it would be a mistake to pull out of Iraq prematurely, but I find it ridiculous that his negative ads try to pin deregulation on the Democrats. Deregulation has been a mainstay of Republicans over the years. You know, “smaller government”, so let’s loose these regulators and let the industry regulate itself. Republicans in congress in the 1990’s gutted regulations of banks, they gutted the FDA to the point where it can’t effectively inspect our meat (and low and behold, we have meat recalls due to ecoli contamination on a regular basis), etc. It’s kind of silly when people try to pin this type of thing on a president too.
