Did the Indians use the ghost dance to intentionally intimidate the army?
It intimidated the army because any gathering of more than two Indians intimidated them. (thus there are many blue laws still on the books banning “gatherings of more than two Indians in one place at any time”) The army did not understand the deep spiritual meaning behind the dance so to them it was just another Indian uprising.
