I would agree with the other answer, South Africa’s history was in no way influenced by American history. Slavery in South Africa existed and was banned by the British much to the annoyance of the boers as they felt they were not compensated. Apartheid was a direct response to the situation many boers found themselves in – abject poverty in the Union of South Africa. No skills, badly educated and unprepared for modern living. It gave them guaranteed jobs, protection, education and a good standard of living/welfare albeit at the expense of the black population.
