Did the Corps primary concern about the structural integrity of its dams limit its perspective on options other than releasing water on downstream communities?
Our operation of the system of dams was not influenced by structural concerns at any dam, nor did any existing concerns limit our perspective on operational options during the event. The structural integrity of our dams is always a primary concern in a high-water event because dam safety is directly tied to public safety. All water management decisions consider risks to dam safety alongside risks to upstream and downstream communities. We monitored our dams closely throughout this event and saw no signs of problems with structural integrity, but dam safety was and is a priority.
