Did the Ancient Greeks ever write about the Semitic People of North Africa (apart from the Egyptians)?
Answer Hello, First of all, the ancient Egyptians were NOT a Semitic people, but CHAMITES, that is tribes which were descended from Cham, son of Noe and progenitor of one of the three great races of men, i.e. : 1)Aryan, or Indo-European 2)Semitic, or Syro-Arabian 3)Chamitic, or Cushite. As for the SEMITIC Peoples of North Africa, during the period of Ancient Greece, we can mention the PHOENICIANS only, who sent colonists to the site of what they called ‘New City’= Carthage, situated on the peninsula forming the northeast corner of modern Tunis, on the northern coast of Africa. The ancient Greeks wrote about them (see Herodotus, for example) and called them “Phoinikes” (Phoenicians) or ” Karchdonioi” from “Karchdn”, the Greek name of Carthago. Finally, with regard to the Arabs, a Semitic people, the ancient Greeks certainly knew them (see Herodotus, Strabo, Dio Cassius), but ONLY as inhabitants of the ARABIAN PENINSULA. In fact, the Arabs conquered Northern Africa many centuries later,
