Yes. There was a host of useful information learned from the NAEP arts assessment ( http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/pubs/strategies/ ). It was the first large-scale standardized assessment in the arts to administer performance tasks and was based on standards that defined student learning in terms of responding, performing, and creating.
