Did the 1960 Cowboys training camp players get paid during training camp and the preseason?
Answer Patrick: yes the 1960 players got paid for training camp and pre-season. Players are not allowed to report to a team unless they are under contract (this was true in 1960 just as it is true today). And once a player is under contract, he must be paid. I believe players get a league standard per-diem in camp (I have no idea how much that is); there may also be a league standard payout for pre-season games, but don’t hold me to that. Once the regular season starts, they get 1/16th of their contract salary for every week they are on the active roster. That means that once their team makes the playoffs, superstars like Romo, Witten, Ware, etc. actually take a pay cut (because playoff games again result in standardized payouts determined by the league)!
