Did steroids save baseball?
” The answer is pretty simple: No. But, contrary to what G-Rob says, steroids didn’t bury baseball either. Why? Because, deep down, in a place few people refuse to admit exists, Americans refuse to hold their heroes accountable. Corked bats, too much pine tar (I’m on George’s side on that one), gambling, rigged World Series–all of it happened and baseball is still alive. Sure, I’m disappointed that McGwire, regardless of what he says, was on the juice. It taints a perfectly good memory I have of my dad (who is still quite alive, by the way, but that doesn’t make the memory any less nice). Still, as merely a fair weather October fan, I’ll watch. Why? Well, it’s on TV. That and, despite not being a loyal fan, baseball is part of my upbringing. My contributors are right, though.
