Did Schuman get lost in the Bretton Woods?
As every year since 2004, the European Executive Directors at the World Bank paid their annual visit to Brussels, met some European Commissioners, Council representatives, members of the European Parliament, the European Investment Bank and even civil society organisations! Tough programme and tough ambitions for a two-day trip, which was intended to “share with European partners views on WB’s performance; be updated on the implementation of the European Consensus on Development; and identify potential for additional cooperation”. Fate decided that the Bank should’t travel to Brussels alone, as the IMF Managing Director also happened to pass by the European capital on his way to Essen to meet the G-7 Finance Ministers. The whole deal was completed with the presence of some European Executive Directors at the IMF attending the meeting of the Sub-committee of the European Council on Economic and Financial Affairs mandated to coordinate European positions at the IMF. And we, modest Europe
