Did post pardom depression really cause Andrea Yates to kill her 5 kids?
Postpartum depression is a depression most women get after childbirth when the hormones are still flooding the body, but have nothing to act on. Once the hormonal balance returns it goes away. Some women are affected more than others. Did the depression cause her to kill her kids? I don’t believe so. It may have been a contributing factor, but it would not make her believe that killing them was right. What she did was wrong and she knew it. She did it anyway, acting on feelings instead of brains. To me this is not mental defect, it is just EVIL. And worse…she got away with it.
