Did Pixar kill Disney traditional animation?
No, we killed traditional animation, in a sense. Compared to 2-D movies, more people expressed an interest in 3-D movies, moving away from the traditional animation. So Disney commisioned Pizar to create 3-D movies, and we went to see them. Lilo and Stich was a great movie, but it did not make nearly as mcuh as Toy Story. Pixar’s first five feature films have collectively grossed more than $2.5 billion, equivalent to the highest per-film average gross in the industry. So Disney saw that these films got them tons of money, and therefore went with 3-D animation. If nobody bought tickets to see the movies made by Pixar, then DIsney would have gone back to 2-D traditional animation.
