Yes. Even though Peter Jackson was remaking the original 1933 film, he borrowed heavily from this 1976 version, too, perhaps intended as uncredited homages. Listed below are some examples where Jackson clearly borrowed from this film. The points of comparison refer to scenes, ideas, and dialogue that are NOT found in the original 1933 version: 1. In Kong ’05 the Surabaya reference on the stern on the Venture. Surabaya is where King Kong 1976 began….in big letters written across the screen. There is no reference to Surabaya in either King Kong ’33 or Son of Kong. In 1932/33 Surabaya was spelled Soerabaja so it’s not even accurate for the time period. The Surabaya spelling only came later. There was an entire planet where the Venture could have had any name for a home port (there was no suggestion in ’05 that the Far East was the Venture’s sole area of operations)…..and yet we get the one place where Kong 1976 begins as the Venture’s home port. 2.
