Did people of 16th century England drink water?

They didn’t drink water as it was so often contaminated. They drank small beer and small ale, which was very watered-down. I don’t know how much they would have consumed, but probably with every meal, which would have been for breakfast, dinner and supper (the equivalent to our breakfast, lunch and dinner!). Wine was also often watered down by the richer people, and children did drink milk. I seem to remember reading somewhere that a nobleman had fresh spring water on his country estate, but can’t find it anywhere now! “Consumption of weak, low-alcohol drinks during the Tudor period has been estimated at around one gallon per person per day.” (I don’t think that in the Tudor era people would have known that it’s important to keep our bodies hydrated with water.) http://www.the-tudors.org.uk/tudor-food.… htt
