Did people fold paper airplanes before airplanes were invented?
Yes. They were called paper darts. Dickens made mention of this in a passage somewhere in, “A Tale of Two Cities.” Someone had to get a message across a crowded room and did it that way. If this was cited in an offhand way in some bit of literature written well before the airplane was attempted, it can be assumed that the knowledge of it was common enough then.
