I think Oscar looked younger and smarter. He used his height advantage and his jab. The knockout was not there and he didn’t press trying to force it. For the first time I can remember he finished strong, maybe because he was more relaxed than he has been — and that has less to do with the opponent than with the fighter himself. Sure Oscar hand-picked Forbes. Any fighter looking ahead to a huge match or rematch who wants a tune-up is going to pick someone he “knows” he can beat, but someone who can also help him prepare for the fighter he’s going to face. Forbes did both. The boxing record books are full of guys who picked opponents they “knew” they could beat.
