Did Obama Parse His Words During the Presidential Debate? Wednesday October 1, 2008 We all heard it. This time, there was no doubt about it. Republican nominee John McCain accused Barack Obama of “parsing his words” during the first presidential debate, regarding the Democratic nominee’s vow to meet face-to-face with self-procalaimed enemies of the US, anywhere at any time. Obama claimed he was not parsing his words, and in fact had never said he would meet at the presidential level with self-proclaimed enemies of the US if he were elected president.
