Did Martina really work for Garth Brooks selling t-shirts and hats?
Yes. When Martina and John moved to Nashville in January, 1990, Martina initially worked as a waitress while singing demos and trying to get a record deal. But she was lonely, with John being on the road with Garth’s tour, so she got a job working for Garth’s merchandise department selling t-shirts, hats, etc. in order to be able to travel with John. She continued with that until she signed with RCA and began working on her first album. Two weeks after the album was released, Martina went back on the road with Garth — as the opening act!
