Here is what happened. Zuckerberg was asked by three people at Harvard to help them build a social network called ConnectU. This is what got him thinking about social networks. He agreed to help build their site, but in the months that followed, set up his own site. Those people at ConnectU did nothing in the mean time. They did not contribute anything to Facebook. You have to understand that there is absolutely zero value in any idea. No idea anybody has ever had has been worth anything. Hundreds of people had the general idea of a social networking site. Myspace had already implemented it very successfully. Many people who dream of making it big believe that all you need is a great idea. That is complete nonsense. There is no such thing as a great idea. What you need is great EXECUTION. Those ConnectU people have now gained millions of dollars just because they could claim credit for putting the idea into Zuckerberg’s head.
