Did mahatma gandhi reach his self actualization?

I would say Gandhi defied Maslow’s theory that higher needs/achievements are sought and attainable only when the lower needs are fulfilled. He turned others’ thinking upside down by subjecting himself to hunger, danger, loneliness, rejection, poverty. He proved that people can serve a higher purpose and not only see to their own needs.
