Did Long Ashton start Bristols urban sprawl?

At last someone has told the truth about people’s true feelings of building on the green belt, step up Marcus of Flax Bourton (Open Lines, July 21). Nimby Gold must surely go to him – build anywhere, but not near me. I really question how many of these so called green crusaders really care about the green belt; I think it’s more a case of not wanting the “hoi polloi” moving in next door. When my mother was a young girl living in West Street, Bedminster, during the 1930s-1940s, beyond the Miners Arms at the bottom of Bedminster Down, it was all countryside. To that end, people living in Long Ashton, Nailsea, Flax Bourton etc should reflect that their homes have already invaded the green belt, in fact, they were probably the start of the Bristol urban sprawl.
