Yes, in theory,Arthur won, but since according to the stories about it (which may not be true) almost all men on both sides died, and Arthur was mortally wounded, it was not a glorious victory. It might be closer to the truth to say that both sides lost. According to the French “Death of Arthur”, the only knights surviving on Arthur’s side were Arthur, who was mortally wounded, Lucan the Butler who was also wounded and was killed when Arthur hugged him with too great strength, and Girflet son of Don. It is later revealed that Blioberis and the Archbishop of Canterbury also survived. In the English “Stanzaic Morte Arthure” and Sir Thomas Malory’s “Le Morte d’Arthur” the survivors are Arthur, Lucan, and Bedivere (and the Archibishop of Canterbury). Other accounts are found.
