Did Judas hanged himself or did his belly bust open on rocks and his guts spilled out?
In Acts Judas purchased a field and fell down in it and his bowels burst open. In Matthew, Judas threw the money down when the priests refused to take it back, then he went out and hung himself and the priests used the money to buy a field for a burial ground. Christians reconcile the contradictions by claiming that he hung himself and when he rotted his body fell and his guts burst. John claims that he was a greedy thief but he was in charge of the groups money so that seems to be unlikely. He was not from Galilee like the other disciples possibly coming from Judea. He might also have been a jewish Freedom Fighter against the Roman occupation. Christian Gnostics say that Jesus persuaded Judas to betray him in order to facilitate the required blood sacrifice, but he is portrayed in a negative light in the New Testament Gospels.
