Did Joe Dumars ruin Carmelo Anthonys NBA career?
I wouldn’t make excuses for Carmelo Anthony. Neither Joe Dumars, Larry Brown, Tayshaun Prince, Allen Iverson, or anyone else MADE Carmelo Anthony choose to drive drunk when he can easily afford a private driver or at very least a cab ride home. Just like no one forced him to carry around marijuana that “wasn’t his” or to do any of the other boneheaded things he’s done – Melo is a really good player but he looks like a knucklehead off the court and sooner or later that would have caught up with him whether in Detroit, Denver, or anywhere else IMO. EDIT – No, I’m certainly not perfect. That’s FOR SURE. Hindsight being 20-20, of course the Pistons should have taken Melo over Darko. Don’t forget that it may have actually hurt Anthony to play for Detroit because of the fact that Larry Brown almost always refused to play younger players, especially rookies. There’s a chance Carmelo’s development as a player would have been stunted greatly by sitting on the bench for a year in Detroit because
