Did Jesus starve himself for 40 days or did it take 40 days for him to feel hungry?
This is exactly what it says about Jesus in the desert: “Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days He was tempted (or tested in the Greek language) by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them, He was hungry”. [Luke 4:1] Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit; therefore during those forty days, did not concern Himself with hunger. Of course Jesus had a “high degree of peace inside His heart and soul”, He is the Son of God! Jesus’ Spirit, NOT his physical body, gave Him the endurance to go through this testing period. It had nothing to do with His metabolism, level of stress, or emotional strain. If you read the entire verses of Luke 4:1-13, Jesus shows no sign of any stress or strain of being tested by the devil.
