Jesus was falsely accused by His enemies of breaking the Sabbath law, but it was actually the man-made traditions and interpretations legalists tacked on that Jesus was ignoring. That is why He pointed out to them that His Father keeps on working, and therefore He works too. He wasn’t talking about the seventh day of the week when He said that either! He is Lord of the Sabbath! And people would criticize Him for breaking it? Wow! The Bible tells Christians how to enter into that real rest which was prefigured by the literal Sabbath-day. We enter by faith in Christ. We stop trusting in our own works (which includes trusting in doing something on a particular day as proof of our righteousness). We trust utterly in what Christ accomplished through His death and resurrection to be saved from our sin.
