Did Jesus commit some of his miracles just for fun?

One of the apocryphal gospels, The Infancy Gospel of Thomas, tells stories about Jesus when he was a boy. One of the stories has Jesus bringing a dried fish back to life. In another story, the young Jesus got bored while sitting by a river on a Saturday (Sabbath), so he made some birds out of mud. A Pharisee saw this and criticized him for ‘working’ on the Sabbath so Jesus made the birds all come to life and fly away–maybe just for fun or maybe to escape punishment. But during his ministry, Jesus was primarily a teacher. All the miracles he performed had a purpose, they had to do with teaching. They all illustrated some point he was trying to make.
