Jay Nixon announced a proposal Monday to expand health care to 35,000 additional uninsured parents through a tax on hospitals. MHA would contribute an extra $52.5 million a year from funds Missouri hospitals currently receive for providing uncompensated care to uninsured patients. This would allow the state to draw $93 million more in matching federal funds, Nixon’s office said.
