Did Japan just forget to design and build a decent tank for WW2?
It comes down to what the tank is being used for. Where Japan was fighting, such heavy tanks would have all but been useless in the island environment. The Sherman did well because it wasn’t heavy, and could maneuver well. Tanks such as the German Tiger were great in Europe and Africa, but on jungle islands, not so well.
