Did Jacques Cartier achive his goal?
Cartier did not achieve either of his two goals. The first, to find a northwest passage to Asia, would have been impossible even if he had located it, for the harsh, freezing climate north of Canada makes it hard to sail without modern technology. His other goal, to find gold and precious stones in Canada, was not accomplished though he thought it had been. The “gold and diamonds” he found turned out to be copper and mica.
